About the Project

In 2023 GENTS lived out some of their ambient dreams. A journey aiming towards a bigger connection to nature and a mindful detox from the many stimuli of the everyday life.

The Sonic Weather Forecast is a unique ambient piece of music taking shape after the conditions of the local weather. Using data from OpenWeather.com, melodies and chords are influenced by the daily local weather forecast, making nature the third member of the band. Live data from OpenWeather.com controls a variety of musical parameters, making every performance unique and shaped by the local weather conditions.

The goal is to increase the awareness of the surrounding nature. The piece was one hour of music performed at Alive Festival 2023 and Trevare Festival 2023.

How It Works

The system integrates real-time weather data to influence musical parameters such as tempo, harmony, melody, and texture. Different weather conditions trigger different sonic elements, creating a unique soundscape for each performance that reflects the natural environment at that moment.
